Chief Justice of Ghana allows live coverage of hearings

Ghana’s Chief Justice Theodora Wood has announced that live coverage of the hearings on the petition filed by opposition NPP against the Electoral Commission and John Mahama and the NDC would be allowed. Media houses would, however, be requested to obtain accreditation from the judicial service before being allowed inside the court room. The decision to allow live media coverage comes after protests from a number of media practitioners and some individuals in Ghana and abroad. A similar election petition filed by Raila Odinga in Kenya was heard live and most Ghanaians thought it was important for the Supreme Court to allow same for transparency. The hearings start  Tuesday, April 16.
