Ghana: Dining Hall Prefect is my work experience – Akandoh

Drama unfolded at Parliament’s Appointment Committee on Tuesday when Deputy Minister of Natural Resources designate, Kwabena Mintah-Akandoh stated as part of his work experience that he held the post of Dining Hall Prefect.
This experience, which he gained at his Senior High School level, he inferred, is adequate enough to help him function at the ministry, where he would be posted after Parliament approves his nomination.
The Juaboso Member of Parliament (MP) was nominated to the Ministry in the latest reshuffle by the President which also saw the removal of several ministers of state including Ashanti Regional Minister, Samuel Sarpong and his Deputy Joseph Yamin.
Since his nomination, several persons including his constituents have celebrated him and thanked President Mahama for nominating him.
However, on the vetting panel, Mr. Akandoh had a hectic time convincing the panel as to how his stated work experience has a bearing on his ministerial position.
He stated further on his CV that he has also gained experience as an executive of the school’s Student Representative Council (SRC). But these experiences, Chairman of the Appointments Committee, Ebo Barton-Odro stated do not qualify as work experience as he was never remunerated for occupying those positions.
Minta-Akandoh subsequently promised the Committee that he would correct them on his CV.
The number of children he has also become an issue at the vetting as the Committee found it difficult to clarify the exact number of children he has.
