Let’s influence Ghana
A New Jersey based Ghanaian traditional leader Beyeeman Gyensare V has called on fellow Ghanaians to come together to influence the way Ghana is managed. Nana Gyensare, Piankohene of Akwamu Traditional Area, Ghana, made this suggestion during a Dinner Dance at the Ramada Plaza Hotel Newark, organized by the Council of Ghanaian Associations, New Jersey (COGA-NJ) to celebrate Ghana’s 58th Independence Anniversary. He reminded Ghanaians that March 6, 1957 was not only for political independence, but “the era of renewed hope, the era of self-confidence, the era of self-satisfaction that we are going to be fully in charge of our own destiny. Above all there was the era of great expectations.” He therefore charged Ghanaians to refocus and harness the country’s human and material resources for the benefit of all.
Beyeeman Gyensare pointed out that it is unconscionable that after 58 years of political independence, the average Ghanaian struggles to put a meal on the table. He described as unacceptable the current energy situation and lack of hygienic water in many a community. “It seems that over the past decade or two our political leaders have completely abandoned the hopes and aspirations that came with our independence 58 years ago. What has become clear is that the main aim of seeking political office in Ghana is to get rich by fair or foul means whilst your party is in power” he added. The Council of Ghanaian Association presented $2400.00 cash awards to twelve deserving students in the community.
