Professor Addo Joins “New Jersey Step” Faculty

Professor E. Obiri Addo, a faculty member at Drew University in Madison, NJ, has been invited to join the “New Jersey STEP” faculty beginning this summer. He will teach an African-American history course, “African Origins to 1877”.
The New Jersey Scholarship and Transformative Education in Prisons (NJ-STEP) program is an association of higher education institutions in New Jersey that works in partnership with the New Jersey Department of Corrections and State Parole Board, to (a) provide higher education courses for all students under the custody of the State of New Jersey while they are incarcerated, and (b) assist in the transition to college life upon their release into the community. The program envisions that “every person in prison who qualifies for college has the opportunity to take college classes while incarcerated and continue that education upon release.”
Courses are taught by a consortium of New Jersey colleges and universities which now includes Drew University; Essex County College; Mercer County Community College; Princeton University, Raritan Valley Community College; Rutgers University; and the College of New Jersey. Dr. Addo is a graduate of the University of Ghana, Legon (B.A), Princeton Theological Seminary, Princeton, NJ (M. A.), and Drew University, Madison, NJ (M. Phil. and Ph. D.) He has been a member of the Drew faculty since 1995 and has taught in all of its three schools: Theological School, Casperson School of Graduate Studies, and the College of Liberal Arts. He has also been responsible for Drew’s Global Education programs in Africa and has led short-term student seminars to Ghana, Burkina Faso, Benin, Eritrea, and South Africa. He has also led a Drew semester program at the University of Ghana, Legon. Dr. Addo is also the Mission Worker-in-Resident at the First Presbyterian and Trinity Church, South Orange, New Jersey.
