Nigeria: Wazobia FM Journalists Arrainged for ‘Inciting’ Polio Workers’ Killing

Wazobia FM journalists, Yakubu Musa Fagge (presenter) and Mubarak Muhamad Sani (reporter), arrested on Sunday, were arraigned before a Magistrate court today.

Arraigned alongside with them was the former director of the Kano Films and Censorship Board, Abubakar Rabo.

The trio were arraigned for alleged criminal conspiracy, abetting, inciting disturbance, obstruction of public officers from performing their duty, intentional insult, defamation of character and injurious falsehood.

The three men denied the contents of the Police First Information Report.

They have been remanded in police custody pending the determination of their bail application fixed for Thursday, February 14.

Part of the contents of the FIR allege that Rabo conspired with the journalists to air a program to defame the polio program and defame the person of the district head of Tarauni. It also said the program instigated the public against the polio program which led to the attack on and killing of 9 polio workers.

Senior Magistrate Ibrahim Bello ordered that they be remanded in police custody and given unconditional access to their lawyers and family and accorded all their constitutional rights.
