SOME OF RWANDA’S ATHLETES VYING FOR THE LONDON GAMES
Robert Kajuga (10,000m)
He is one of the country’s rising long distance athletes. Recently, he clocked 28:45:00 in 10,000m, which is 40 seconds above the IAAF standard qualifying minimum. He is now preparing for next month’s African Championship in Benin.
Epiphanie Nyirabarame (Women full marathon)
While Nyirabarame has for years been one of the country’s flag-bearers in international athletics, there is now a need for a change of guard. The two-time Olympian is well past her prime as he continues her hunt for a London ticket. There is very little to say about her Olympic performances (66th in the Beijing Games), but for the sake of filling up the numbers, it’s crucial that she qualifies.
Dieudonne Disi
Disi, who like Nyirabarame, is a two-time Olympian, recently came out of retirement and has been training in Ngogwe, Kenya as he prepares to have another go at what will surely be his last Olympics. In the 2008 Beijing Games, the 32-year-old came closest to an Olympic medal after finishing 20th in the 10,000m.
