What Ghanaians say about the verdict

Amandla’s Enquiring photographer sampled the opinion of some Ghanaians’s about  the August 29, landmark electoral petition ruling. We bring you some edited opinion.

If the whole Supreme Court would render a judgment in favor of those who stole the elections, never rely on anyone for the truth. The judgment would go a long way to affect our children – Osei – Kwame

Ghana is now about law and order. NPP took the case to the Supreme Court because it thought it the election was stolen. Bush and Gore’s election problem was settled within weeks in favor of Bush. It took about eight months for Ghana to resolve the issue. hana’s Supreme Court has decided and what it said is final. Ghana is not the first country to face such an issue. Let’s just move on. But we should study the verdict so such a thing does not happen again. I’m proud of Ghana – Joseph Atta Mensah

I think they erred. They were also biased in their judgment. If Afari Gyan was able to disqualify an area because of over voting or election malpractices, what about other areas that experienced similar things – Kwadwo Asaase

Atuguba should have explained the basis of the judgment. But he didn’t do that. He just read the ruling without explanation and that is a problem for me – Felix Acheampong

The Supreme Court is the highest Court of the land and their rule is final. We should accept the verdict and move on as a country – Ben Yartey

Looking at Africa, the judgment is in the interest of Ghana. However, we hope this would be an eye opener for all Ghanaians in future elections – Kwaku Darko

Changing a sitting government in Ghana would have brought confusion and conflict so the President should stay on – Mrs. Agatha Addofofo Gbagbe-Sowah

God revealed to me that there would be peace after the Supreme Court ruling. I was the first prophet to say so on KFM radio – Prophet James Opong , Lords Fireworks Chapel, Kumasi

I wasn’t surprised of the verdict. There would have been too much involved to change a sitting government   – Genevieve Peprah

The judgment has opened a warpath for Ghana in subsequent elections. There is no meaning to over voting, Presiding Officers signature, and biometric verification – Stella Arko

Ghana’s Supreme Court has disappointed us. They’ve validated election malpractices. There’s no truth in Ghana now and it’s sad – Abdul Gamah

If we have this kind of Supreme Court in Ghana, then there is no future for the country. The Electoral Commissioner admitted to some irregularities but the judges did not see anything wrong with that.  – Chris Awuah
