Stand up and be counted – Congressman

Brooklyn Congressman Hakeem Jeffries has urged his constituency to stand up for fairness, justice and equality because there are a lot of folks weighted down and unable to move or “crossover to the other side.” Preaching the sermon at the Annual Law Day of the Brooklyn Community Church May 18, Hon. Jeffries, of the Eighth Congressional District, New York inferred that for lack of faith and will power, several talented, strong, and educated people have virtually failed to make headways in life.
He paid glowing tribute to the new District Attorney of Kings County, Brooklyn Mr. Kenneth Thomson for being able to secure the release of seven people wrongly convicted and jailed within the first five months in office. Congressman Hakeem Jeffries who won a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives November 2012, challenged Christians to walk by faith, not by sight” at all times. In praising the works of the Church’s Social Action Ministry for bringing to the Church about two hundred job openings in and around Brooklyn, Founder and Senior Pastor Rev. Dr. Fred Lucas castigated Ministers that more often than not attempt to squeeze money out of parishioners’ pockets instead of putting money in their pockets. Present at the Law Day were officers from the court and corrections, and attorneys who practice in all areas of the law. Court of Appeals Justice Sheila Abdus Salam, King’s County District Attorney Ken Thompson, Appellate Division of the Second Dept. Justice Sylvia Hinds Raddix, Chief Administrative Judge Lisa Ottley and several others from the judiciary. Also in attendance was New York State Assemblyman Walter Mosley. There were lots of hugs and handshakes at end of service. Libation was offered by Deacon Maurice Davis as a tribute to the ancestors.
